Gwinnett Campus Vote
Hi Everybody,
Several months ago, I announced that our leadership had decided to pursue the development of a campus in Gwinnett County. Since that time a team has been working to identify a piece of land that would meet our needs. After evaluating more than twenty sites, we believe we have found an ideal location for our fourth campus in the Atlanta area.
The property is located on the west side of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, two miles south of Highway 20. Our desire is to purchase two contiguous tracts that would give us a total of 52 acres. This is approximately the same size as our Browns Bridge campus. By purchasing both tracts, we will be able to access the property from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard as well as Level Creek Road.
The cost of the property is $8.7 million, or about $167,000 per acre. To put that in perspective, we paid $5.2 million for the same number of buildable acres in Alpharetta twelve years ago. And we paid $5 million for 2.5 acres in Buckhead five years ago. So, while it's a lot of money, it is pretty much in line with the dollar figures we are accustomed to paying for real estate.
We have a line of credit that the church approved in 2005 for the construction projects, including Buckhead and Brown Bridge.
The plan is to use that existing instrument to pay for the property when we close in July and for construction of the facility at a date yet to be determined. Once the leadership of the church has determined that the time is right to begin construction, we will launch a capital campaign at all three campuses to cover the cost of both the property and the facility. Our best guess is that we would begin construction in 2012. However, if you would like to contribute toward the purchase of the Gwinnett property now, feel free. You don't need to wait for the official capital campaign.
In order to move forward with this purchase, we need your approval . . . assuming, of course, that you approve. If not, you can certainly indicate that in your vote as well.
There are three ways to vote:
- Vote online by going to the voting page. Enter your name and member number as they appear on the ballot you received in the mail and submit your vote.
- Drop the enclosed ballot into the offering bucket or leave it at the Information Center on Sundays.
- Mail the enclosed ballot to the church office.
We will count the votes on April 1, 2010. So don't miss this chance to let your vote count.
In 2005, I asked you to approve a similar, but much larger project. You voted yes and then gave generously toward the construction of two new campuses. Now, five years later, thousands of adults and children are connected to church for the first time and many have reconnected after being away for a long time. We believe the same thing will happen in Gwinnett County.

Thanks for partnering with your church to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
